Last week we decided to choose our genre. I wanted a genre that would be interesting to plan around, along with one that would be fun to film. We ended up settling on the genre of thriller/suspense, the two are grouped together in this case due to the fact that I believe that they are quite similar. We are planning to meet on Wednesday of this week to finalize our ideas and wrap up the planning, and then film some pieces on Saturday.
I did conduct some research on the genres we selected, and according to thescriptlab.com, a website dedicated to screenwriting, "Thriller Film is a genre that revolves around anticipation and suspense. The aim for Thrillers is to keep the audience alert and on the edge of their seats. The protagonist in these films is set against a problem – an escape, a mission, or a mystery. No matter what sub-genre a Thriller film falls into, it will emphasize the danger that the protagonist faces. The tension with the main problem is built on throughout the film and leads to a highly stressful climax."
I mainly wanted to focus on the aspects regarding a mystery when dealing with the plot of our movie. Maybe I am being too dedicated to the suspense genre, but I'm still going to keep the plot of out film secret! Anyhow, we wrote a very basic "script" of what we plan to film, and techniques we want to use when filming.
