I AM DONE!!!
WHEW! After close to 4 weeks of working on this project, I can now say that I am finally done! Today is the Monday that I planned on recording my CCR, and so far, everything has gone to plan! I had to make my own "recording setup" for this, basically using my camera, and tripod, but there were some interesting components too. I used a barstool, a lamp, a chair, a trash can, my laptop, and a remote control for some assistance in recording this.
I started off my mounting the camera on the tripod and making sure the height was good when I was sitting in the chair. Next, I took my lamp and installed a larger bulb in order to project more light, and then aimed it at the area where the chair was. I then used the barstool and trash can in order to make a stand for my laptop to sit on. My laptop was used as a teleprompter of sorts, with a powerpoint running with what I want to say on it, I used the remote in order to switch the slides, which gave me a cohesive video.

Final Recordings Completed!
So, it is now Thursday, and everything looks amazing! My group and I really did a phenomenal job with recording everything, and really making our ideas a reality. This is probably going to be the last post until Monday, which is when I plan to record the CCR.
The editing process, for me at least, was the most fun part! I love editing things, and this was right up my alley. I mainly used Adobe Premiere and After Effects, and came up with some really cool ideas. When I was in the process of editing, I kinda had an epiphany moment. I remembered back to when I played Battlefield 3 on my Xbox 360, there was this really cool glitching effect placed on the logos of the developers, and I thought this would be really cool to use in our film too. I used After Effects to generate this title, and I came out really cool!

Recording Day PT2
Last time I made a post about recording, things didn't exactly go to plan.... But this time, everything will hopefully go right! Using all of the equipment mentioned in the previous post, my group and I will film. and hopefully record, everything today. So today is the Wednesday right before I compete in a Model UN competition, meaning that everything NEEDS to be done today... The competition will take up the whole weekend, and then I have an early flight on Tuesday for a spring break trip. The plan is to use that one free day, Monday, in order to record the CCR and upload everything to YouTube.
Anyhow, everyone should be getting here at around 4ish, leaving me enough time to get everything done and edited. I have got some pretty cool ideas saved up, and since the last time, we completely changed the idea of the movie. Mainly cause, well, the old idea was terrible! The way this looks in my head is amazing, but it is all about putting thoughts into content, and making sure the interest and comprehension of the viewer is maintained.

More Thoughts
After recording some test footage on my camera, I have deemed the internal microphone as insufficient for the job... I felt that this was going to be a big issue from the get-go, and low and behold, there is an issue! My brother has a Blue Snowball microphone for the purpose of talking to his friends on the computer, and one of my friends has a RODE VideoMic Pro that I could potentially use.
One of my biggest qualms about using the Snowball is matching up the video with the audio... I have done this in the past, and it has always been a pain... I always get a bit OCD about the smallest things within the work I put out, and I noticed a slight delay between the audio and the video of the test clip. One of the main strategies when using an external microphone is the clapping technique, where you match up an onscreen clap with an audio clip from the external microphone of the sound being recorded. This tends to work, but leads a small possibility of something being off.
The RODE microphone would definitely be the way to go, in my opinion. The microphone provides directional sound, due to it's cone shape, and centers the audio based on a subject in front of the camera. The microphone slides into the Shoe Mount on the top of the camera, and plugs into the camera using a provided 3.5mm headphone jack. The best thing about using this microphone is the fact that it overrides the camera's main microphone, and the video from the camera would then use the RODE microphone for sound. This removes the issue of having to match up the audio clip with the video clip during editing, saving me time, and frustration.

Equipment
I haven't really posted too much about the equipment that I plan on using to conduct this project! I have done work with filming before, and have done some other creative work in the past, I definitely welcomed this project with open arms!
So to begin, we have the camera setup. It's nothing special, and I really am trying to save up some money for a new camera, but as of now, I am rocking a Nikon D3100 with a 52mm Nikon DX lens. By today's standards, this camera isn't anything special, it has a rather outdated 14.2 megapixel CMOS sensor, but can record in full 1080p HD. One of the main things I like about filming on a DSLR, is the ability to manually focus. As opposed to a phone camera, which lacks a physical way to focus, DSLR lenses provide this functionality in a much more convenient way. I've also got a 16GB SD card in the camera, which allows me to shoot for a longer duration, and the camera will be sitting on a tripod for most of the shooting.
Next is the general editing setup. I have 2 main computers that I plan on using for editing this project, a laptop and a desktop. The laptop is a 2011 MacBook Pro, with a 2.3GHz i5 processor, 16GB RAM, and a 512GB SSD. This thing flies, and is a more than capable portable laptop for editing this project. One of the main positives to using a laptop is it's portability, allowing me to record and edit on the spot, and in class. The desktop is a maxed out 2006 Mac Pro with an 8 core 3.0GHz Xenon processor, 32GB RAM, 6TB of storage, and a AMD R9 280X. This desktop is an absolute beast, and can tackle any task a throw at it. The best thing about using the desktop is it's sheer power, it can crunch through the rendering of a video in a very short time, allowing me to make better use of my time. I will more than likely be storing the video files I like on a USB drive, along with the main timeline file of the project for quick and easy access across all of the computers. Final Planned Report
So, its been a while! Over the course of the week, my group has mainly focused on the final planning of our project. Our original filming session didn't go to plan, and we then decided to try again. I was busy with a Model United Nations event last weekend, and this weekend I am having family in town. Darrah also has a conflict for this upcoming weekend. We eventually decided that we are going to finalize filming on Monday.
One of the main concerns that I have with filming on Monday, is the fact that we are only going to have around 3 hours to record everything... I have been on more complex time constraints in the past, but I want the final product to be as good as I can make it.
Well, this was just a short update, and I guess I'll be seeing you around next time!
